Former Society president Gord Philpott passed away peacefully at the age of 90.
Philpott served as president in 1973 when the Society was a voluntary staff association called the Society of Ontario Hydro Professional Engineers. As a volunteer himself, Philpott led negotiations, arbitrations and mediations on behalf of Society members. He also served on many committees that facilitated social programs for the benefit of members.
After graduating what is now the University of Guelph, Philpott had a full career working out of Ontario Hydro’s Head Office in the Forestry and Environment Department as the Head Landscape Architect. He retired in 1988 and was a Pensioners’ Chapter member since 2010.
Philpott is survived by Jane, his wife of 37 years, as well as his children Robert, Michael and Leeanne.
The family requests donations be made to St. Joseph’s at Fleming Long-Term Care in Peterborough, University of Guelph Pet Trust, or Salvation Army Peterborough. A celebration of Gord Philpott’s life will be held at a later date in 2021.
