The Society is hosting EMPOWERMENT! United in Equity, a half-day conference for all members interested in learning more about equity, how to be an ally, and how to get involved with one or more of the Society's equity committees. The conference is Saturday, November 2 from 1:30-5PM at the Society’s midtown Toronto office. Registration closes at end of day on October 25.
Each of the Society’s equity committees - Indigenous Relations Committee, Sisters United, Pride & Solidarity, Young Professionals Network - will host a workshop looking at key issues and activities their committee is working on.
All Society members are welcome to attend. Attendees are responsible for their own expenses related to travel and accommodation. With the union’s Annual Delegates Council (ADC) meeting running November 3-4, organizers hope ADC attendees from across the province will be able to attend. A light snack will be provided to attendees.
In addition to the EMPOWERMENT! conference, this fall the Society will also be relaunching the Charter of Inclusive Workplaces and Communities that highlights the union’s and members’ commitment to embracing the rich diversity found in Society-represented workplaces and the communities in which members live and work. The Charter was first launched in 2017 in response to the mass shooting at a Quebec City mosque. As with the 2017 version, the launch will include a friendly contest to encourage members to show their support for inclusive workplaces and communities.
