First family BBQ sizzled

September 20, 2017

More than 250 people attended the union’s first family picnic and BBQ at the beautiful Kelso Conservation Area on Saturday, August 19. It was a great way for SEP members, retirees and their families from across all SEP locals to come together for some fun, food, and relaxation.

For many, the day began with exploration of the park and setting up a spot under the shade. Children got right into creating artwork at the craft tent and others started playing games.

After a short introduction by EVP Member Services Andy D’Andrea and opening remarks by Society President Scott Travers, the Canadian national anthem was played.

Among the highlights of the day was some friendly competition. Eight teams competed in Frisbee soccer, water relay, and beach ball relay. Prizes were given to the teams with the highest overall scores from all events.

Everyone enjoyed the BBQ hamburgers, veggie burgers and salad selection. The afternoon ended with plenty of tasty watermelon for all.

The Society is already thinking ahead to next year’s BBQ. If you attended this year and have feedback or want to suggest where to hold next year’s event, please contact EVP Member Services Andy D’Andrea at [email protected].
