2023 Scholarship Winners Announced

October 5, 2023

The Society is proud to support the educational pursuits of our Members’ and Pensioners’ children and grandchildren once again as they attend a post-secondary institution of higher learning. A good education is the cornerstone of helping the next generation reach their full potential so that they can both secure good jobs and help to improve our society as a whole.

This year the Society, with the support for two prizes from the Pensioners’ Chapter, awarded 32 scholarships to assist with the costs of pursuing post-secondary education. The Society awarded 10 scholarships worth $1,500 and 22 additional scholarships for $1,000.

Winners were scored based on their current volunteer work, a personal statement describing the applicant's interest in impacting their community or broader society, as well as a short essay on one of four topics related to the labour movement and role of unions. Qualified applicants were assessed by a committee after identifying information removed to ensure objectivity and anonymity.
