The Society is celebrating the addition of three New Brunswick-based members to its ranks, who joined the Society at the end of 2024 alongside nearly 50 workers from Laurentis Energy Partners (LEP). The LEP employees became Society members after voting in favour of a collective agreement negotiated by the Society’s Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Local on behalf of workers. Laurentis is a commercial subsidiary of OPG, and works closely with OPG to produce isotopes and manage radioactive waste.
The three new members, who work out of Laurentis’ Saint John office, are the first Society members to be based outside the province of Ontario. The members work as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with over 25 years of heavy industrial experience including 10 years as a lead designer at PLNGS, an Associate Design Engineer with 5 years experience with a SMR company, and an Engineering student on work term.
These engineers are leading the engineering for a Class 1B Facility that will be part of the business growth plan at Laurentis Energy Partners. Their expertise also supports the operation of the CANDU unit at Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station (PLNGS).
The Society’s New Brunswick-based membership is expected to grow as a result of Laurentis’ multi-year partnership with PLNGS. Laurentis provides technical expertise, training, and engineering services to the facility.
