The Society’s NWMO Local is investing in the communities in which they are engaged. The Local made donations in Ignace, Dryden, Teeswater and Mildmay to help support worthwhile local organizations and initiatives and boost the profile of the Society as a social advocate and good neighbour.
On behalf of the Society, the Local presented a cheque to the Ignace Silver Tops, an active seniors’ social group, in recognition of their ongoing leadership and contributions to the community. Run by volunteers, the Ignace Silver Tops relies on donations, memberships and grants for all their operating costs and programing.
In Dryden, the Local provided a donation to the Dryden Museum. The museum collects artefacts related to the history and culture of the area and maintains First Nations artefacts and collections. Recently, the museum put on an exhibit in collaboration with Science North on Indigenous identity.
In South Bruce, the Local delivered two cheques to the Firefighters associations of Teeswater and Mildmay in recognition of the first responders and volunteers who keep communities safe in those areas.
These most recent donations build on previous charitable efforts by the Society’s NWMO Local. In 2019, the Local donated to the Lions of Formosa, Teeswater Agricultural Society, and Kinloss Kairshea Women’s Institute in Bruce County, and to the Mary Berglund Community Health Centre in Ignace.
The Society prides itself on its support of the communities and consider it an important part of our strategic plan to be the union of choice for Ontario professionals.
