June is Pride Month

May 21, 2021

June 1 will mark the beginning of Pride Month and although it is virtual this year, the Pride spirit cannot be broken! This is a time to recognize the progress made in advancing the human rights of people who identify as two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer or intersex (2SLGBTQIA+). Throughout the history of the 2SLGBTQIA+ movement, working people in unions have often been at the forefront of achieving these gains by pushing for legal reform and cultural changes to ensure the rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in the workplace and beyond.

On May 4, the Society launched its online learning platform. This is an opportunity for members to engage in union education regardless of where they live and work. It is an excellent way for you to familiarize yourself with your union, union committees and issues that are important to Society members. The Pride and Society Committee has developed a learning module to provide a basic overview and understanding of some of the issues facing 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, and how Society members can be allies within their locals to help move equity and diversity conversations forward. Members can access the course through e-learning platform at https://thesociety.docebosaas.com/learn/signin.
