Canadian Labour Congress Calls for Worker-Centered Economic Strategy

March 6, 2026

Society President Rebecca Caron joined allies across the Labour Movement at the Canadian Labour Congress’ Canadian Council press conference on February 3.

The Canadian Labour Movement is calling on the Canadian government to put workers interests at the centre of Canada’s trade and economic strategy, rather than simply benefitting corporate interests or market access. If we hope to build a stronger, more resilient Canadian economy that works for everyone, we need to ensure that future trade deals prioritize good union jobs, domestic industry, and strong labour protections. Particularly by strengthening Canadian manufacturing, the energy sector, and other key sectors we can build a future-looking economy that is shock-resistant and benefits the people who make it work.
