Virtual Society Council a Big Success

December 8, 2020

The Society held its annual Delegates Council meeting on November 16th. This year was a little different than previous years as it was hosted virtually on the Zoom platform.

There were nearly 200 elected members, observers and guests on hand to discuss the business of the union, with the pandemic and its effects on our members being front-and-centre in the agenda. IFPTE President Paul Shearon and IFPTE Secretary Treasurer Matt Biggs brought greetings from our International Union and provided an update on the state of our American brothers and sisters as well as the impacts of the US Election.

Attendees were treated to engaging talks and presentations from several esteemed guests including: Canadian Labour Congress President Hassan Yussuff, Leader of the Official Opposition Andrea Horwath, Senior Economist at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives Sheila Block, ONA First Vice-President Cathryn Hoy, Michael Wright, Partner at Wright Henry LLP and Pat Oakes.

Members who would like to see highlights of the Council meeting can watch it below.
