Take Back the Night Events Across Ontario

September 15, 2016

Take Back the Night (TBTN) is an annual rally and protest against sexual and gender-based violence. TBTN 2016 communities celebrate, support and empower survivors, while creating safer communities and healthier relationships through awareness, activism and advocacy.

Take Back the Night events are geared toward empowering women to confront fears about rape and assault by reclaiming the evening streets en masse. The events call for safety and equality for women in all places, at all times. It is also a chance to publicly celebrate women’s solidarity: the march is women-only to symbolically underline that women will not be passive and accept the violence against them but will instead speak out and take action together for change.

Communities invite male allies to join the gatherings/rallies. Most communities ask male allies not to march but show their support for marchers by support from the side.

Since1975, Take Back the Night has grown into an international movement, joining communities, grass-roots groups, organizations and others together to eradicate sexual violence.

If your community is not listed please check Facebook and twitter hashtag #TBTN2016.
