Supporting Transition into Retirement

May 19, 2026

You may be at the top of your professional career - but are you also at the top of your life?

As you think about the years you’ve dedicated to building your skills, knowledge, and professional identity, this is also the time to begin planning for what comes next. Not just financially but how you want to live.

To support members through this transition, the Society of United Professionals is offering a four-part Transition to Retirement: Lifestyle Planning Webinar Series focused on helping you design a life you will enjoy and feel fulfilled in beyond your career.

This series was developed and will be delivered by Dr. Susan Hutchinson, a passionate educator and researcher whose work focuses on retirement planning and time use. Having recently retired from Dalhousie University, Susan brings both research-based insight and real-life experience to these sessions as she navigates this transition herself.

This series focuses on lifestyle planning - helping you think about:

  • What you want your life to look like beyond work
  • How you will spend your time in ways that bring meaning and fulfillment
  • What might get in the way, and how to navigate it

Coming Friday, May 15, Session 2 of our Transition to Retirement series, From Ideas to Action: Planning Your Retirement Life, will focus on turning retirement ideas into meaningful next steps. Participants will explore what contributes to a fulfilling retirement, learn the basics of retirement lifestyle planning, and begin identifying practical actions they can start taking now to shape life beyond work.
