Supporting Oshawa-Area Charities

October 13, 2026

With the Society setting up a new regional office in Oshawa, we wanted to make our presence felt by giving back. To that end, the Society provided substantial donations to several local charities who are providing critical services to the Oshawa community.

Feed the Need

Feed the Need in Durham is at the forefront of Durham Region’s response to food insecurity. Feed the Need is the central emergency food distribution hub for the Durham Region, collecting, rescuing, procuring, and distributing over 2.4 million pounds of food and household essentials annually to 70 community food programs. These partners include local food banks, emergency meal programs, shelters, in-school nutrition programs, and social service organizations throughout the Durham Region.

The Denise House

The Denise House provides a safe shelter and supportive programs for women, with or without children, experiencing gender-based violence.

The Backdoor Mission

The Back Door Mission is a collaborative social and health services hub for those experiencing homelessness. They assist their patrons in achieving long-term stabilization by providing low-barrier, wrap-around supports. Their innovative partnership model empowers them to offer specialized person-centred services for the community through a singular access point.

YMCA

The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a charity that ignites the potential in people, helping them grow, lead, and give back to their communities. They are focused on creating welcoming places and programs where everyone feels they belong and that support people’s physical, social, and mental health.
