The Society was a VIP Reception Sponsor for the event “Leading with Stiles: Ontario’s future Reimagined.” The event featured a conversation between Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles and renowned Canadian journalist Steve Paikin. The Empire Club of Canada featured Stiles as part of its Ontario Leaders series.
Paikin is a former anchor and Queen’s Park correspondent with CBC television. He has also worked extensively with TVO, where he hosted programs including “Between the Lines,” “Fourth Reading,” “Studio 2,” and “The Agenda with Steve Paikin.”
Stiles, Leader of Ontario’s Official Opposition, shared her roadmap and vision for the future based on her engagement with communities across the province.
The Society has been working with Stiles, and Ontario NDP riding associations across the province, to change the party’s opposition to nuclear power. It is hoped that this work will pay off at the ONDP’s January policy convention where we expect to see a resolution endorsing Canadian nuclear power passed on the floor. With the passage of a pro-nuclear motion by the Green Party of Ontario at a November policy convention, the Ontario NDP remains the only party to formally oppose nuclear power.
