Congratulations to Society President Rebecca Caron, who is the recipient of the Build a Dream Equity Advocate Award. The award was presented to Caron on Oct. 22 at the organization’s annual Dreamer Day.
The Equity Advocate Award celebrates individuals or organizations who, with unwavering commitment, act to confront inequities within their industry or communities. Caron has been a tireless advocate for gender equity in her workplace throughout her career.
Caron has worked to build inclusive, fair, and equitable environments for marginalized groups. Alongside fellow bargaining team members, Caron negotiated paid domestic violence leave for workers at Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in their most recent round of collective agreements negotiations. OPG was the first Society local to negotiate this right into a collective agreement. Caron has also advocated for increased access to menstrual products at remote worksites, and sounded the alarm when women lacked access to properly fitting safety gear. She is the current chair of the Society Committee United Sisters, which works to advance gender equity in the Society and beyond.
