Society Presents at CNSC Hearing for PNGS Extension

July 8, 2024

The Society presented its arguments at the public hearing to review OPG’s request to continue to operate its Pickering units five to eight until 2026. The Society regularly provides submissions and presentations to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) in order to present the position of the workers and operators of the facilities in question.

Local Vice-President Joe Fierro, Unit Director Ralph Chatoor, Ryan Reeson, and third-party consultant Robin Manley led the presentation in support of OPG’s request to continue plant operations of Pickering units five to eight. The Society engaged Robin Manley on behalf of Paradymshyft Nuclear Advisory Ltd. to support the work of the Local and staff, and to capitalize on their more than three decades of nuclear regulatory experience.

After reviewing the CNSC’s regulatory requirements and the submissions by the licensee and the CNSC staff report, the Society and Paradymshyft both support the license application by OPG to continue Pickering B operations.
