Society member Colin Barrett is the recipient of the Grey Bruce Labour Council’s Health and Safety Activist of the Year Award. The award was presented on Oct. 28 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Tara, Ontario. Barrett works as an Operations Specialist II at Bruce Power.
Barrett is a staunch advocate for workers’ safety at Bruce Power. First as a Power Workers’ Union member and now as a Society member, Barrett has served as the volunteer Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Chair at Bruce A since 2015. As a shift worker, Barrett has volunteered numerous hours towards his meetings and obligations unpaid. His leadership has been fundamental to ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.
He is also a union representative for the JHSC Working Committee, which provides oversight to all of Bruce Power’s JHSCs.
He was a volunteer with the Owen Sound Auxiliary Police force for five years and the Teeswater Volunteer Fire Department for four years.
