Each year, Society Local 222 is proud to support the City’s Annual Civic Pancake Breakfast in support of United Way Saskatoon and Area. This year’s event raised more than $15,000, and our local was pleased to once again take part as a sponsor and as celebrity pancake chefs.
Our commitment to community did not stop there. Following a suggestion from Society delegate Michou Edwards of the Saskatoon Fire Department, Society Local 222 also donated water to local grassroots agencies that distribute thousands of bottles each week to people experiencing homelessness, extreme heat or other urgent needs.
After serving pancakes at the breakfast, members of our executive delivered 50 cases of bottled water and 500 reusable fold-up water pouches to each Station 20 West, the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre, and the Friendship Inn.
The donations were warmly received. “Wow, this is incredible, thank you for this generous offer,” said Katelyn Siggelkow from Station 20 West. “Bottled water is much needed at this time and we are very appreciative.” Sandra Kary, CEO of the Friendship Inn, also shared her thanks: “A very big thank-you from me as well — we will be sure to share these resources with our vulnerable neighbours. Thank you for thinking of us.”
These organizations rely on community donations throughout the year, and especially during heat waves when demand increases significantly. By supporting local, grassroots organizations, Society Local 222 is helping ensure practical resources reach people in our community when they need them most.
