The Society was proud to participate in the Canadian Labour Congress’ Indigenous Lobby Day in Ottawa.
Members Sharon Archer and Kim Whiteduck joined representatives from other unions, including PSAC, the United Steelworkers, PSAC, UFCW, IBEW and PIPSC to speak with Members of Parliament of from all political parties to advocate on important issues to the Indigenous peoples with whom we share this land.
Some of the key issues raised were access to safe drinking water for people living on reserves, establishing a national red dress alert system, and funding for searches for the missing remains of all children who died at residential schools.

Additionally, on November 28, Secretary-Treasurer Laurie Reid, External Relations Officer Mike Belmore, and Society OPG Local Unit Director Jeff Wilson attended the CLC lobby day lobbying for the need for sustainable jobs, anti-scab legislation, and pharmacare.
