Referendum 2019

Society members will vote April 1-15 in a referendum on whether to create an alternative dues structure to allow locals to switch from flat fee dues to a percentage model. Cast your vote to have your say!

Vote April 1-15

The Society is holding a referendum on amending our constitution to add an alternative dues structure that any local could seek to adopt through a referendum. In this referendum, members will be asked to vote on whether they support or oppose this amendment.

Members of all locals that joined the Society before 2016 pay dues based on a flat fee. If adopted, the alternative model would allow a local to change from members paying a flat fee to paying dues equivalent to 1 percent of their salary.

The proposed amendment was recommended to members by Society Council at its November 2018 meeting.

Voting will take place April 1-15 using the online balloting system adopted in 2018. Voting credentials will be provided to members via email at the start of voting on April 1.

Member meetings

The Society held six membership meetings to inform members about the referendum. Thank you to the hundreds of members from Pickering to Niagara Falls who attended for taking an active interest in your union.

The Society will also host interactive webinars at various times before voting closes to give all members a chance to learn more about the referendum.
