Dr. Ralph Chatoor was born in Trinidad and Tobago and immigrated to Canada to pursue his education. Growing up in a large family, he learned the value of unity early in his life. This informs his activism in the union and the labour movement more broadly.
Prior to his election as Executive Vice-President, Ralph was the Section Manager for Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG) Regulatory Affairs department at Pickering Nuclear Generation Station (PNGS). He served as a Unit Director for the Society’s OPG local. As a Unit Director, Ralph focused on skills development and mentorship, empowering fellow members to engage in effective workplace advocacy on behalf of the membership. Ralph is passionate about membership engagement and inspires members to have an active voice in their union.
He has served on a variety of committees, including the OPG local’s Bargaining Committee, its Grievance Coordination Committee, and its Pickering Pension Committee. Ralph is committed to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. For 13 years, he was a member of the Pickering Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, a tripartite committee responsible for EDI initiatives at PNGS. He has served as alternate Vice-President for the Ontario Federation of Labour’s Workers of Colour Committee, and he served on the Equity Committee of his local labour council. Today, he sits on the Society’s Professionals with Disabilities Committee.
Ralph has spearheaded submissions to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) on behalf of the Society’s OPG Local. His advocacy helped secure licenses from the CNSC for OPG’s nuclear initiatives, including the Darlington New Nuclear Project.
Ralph has a passion for learning and higher education. He is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta. He obtained a Ph.D. from Andrews University in 2013 and a Master’s in Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. He is a lawyer and engineer by trade.
