Rebecca Caron is a trailblazer for workers' rights and environmental sustainability, with over 15 years of dedication as a labor activist with the Society of United Professionals-IFPTE Local 160. Her commitment to improving the lives of workers and her innovative vision for the future have made her a respected figure within her union and the labour movement.
As a First Line Manager in Reactor Maintenance Projects at Ontario Power Generation (OPG), Rebecca draws on her professional experience in the nuclear industry to advocate for the decarbonization of Ontario’s electric grid. She has brought attention to the important role that Canada-made CANDU nuclear reactors can play in meeting climate targets.
In 2024, she represented the Society at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, where she spoke about the urgency of the climate crisis and the necessity for women be part of the solution. Rebecca is a recipient of the Equity Advocate Award of the 2024 Build a Dream Awards, which she received for her achievements surrounding workplace equity. She was part of the first Society bargaining team to achieve paid domestic violence leave in collective agreement negotiations, marking a major milestone for the union.
Rebecca is an avid reader, a seasoned traveler, and an active member of her community. She calls Port Hope home.
