Laurentis Workers Join Society, Ratify First Agreement

December 16, 2024

Nearly 50 workers at Laurentis Energy Partners, a subsidiary of OPG, have voted to join the Society. This work is the culmination of several years of work by the leadership at the Society’s OPG Local to provide these employees with Society representation.

Laurentis works with OPG’s isotope production and are an internationally recognized leader in SMR development. They are also involved in managing and sorting low and intermediate radioactive waste out of their Kincardine office, which helps to reduce the amount of radioactive waste that needs special disposal.

Like many of the workers at our energy sector Locals, the new Members at Laurentis are engineers, project leaders, specialists, regulatory affairs officers, analysts, health physicists and other related roles. Since being spun-off from OPG in 2021, the workforce has been growing rapidly, and they are looking to expand their operations outside of Ontario. The Society has Canada-wide bargaining rights, so the opportunities for growth are significant.

As the leadership at the OPG Local now undertakes the work of implementing the new agreement, we are very pleased to welcome our new Members to the Society.
