Hydro One Local Member Receives Prestigious IEEE Fellowship Award

March 7, 2025

The Society was proud to learn that Hydro One Local member Peter Zhao, an engineer in Transmission Asset Management, has achieved a remarkable milestone. Peter is the first Hydro One Advancing Technology employee to receive a fellowship by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). This is the highest level within the IEEE and is generally reserved for less than 0.1 per cent of the international organization's voting members annually.

Peter was recognized for his work in developing safer and more reliable bushing and transformer standards, leading to increased reliability, a reduction in environmental impacts, and enhanced safety. Peter's work to develop an explosion-resistant design standard for bushings and transformers has enhanced the stability of the electricity supply, and set a new standard for the industry.

Building on his past achievements, Peter continues to raise the bar for bushing and transformer standards, setting new benchmarks that are practised across the industry and endorsed by experts worldwide.

The Society is proud to congratulate Peter Zhao on this tremendous achievement.
