The Society is thrilled to welcome into the union 18 engineers from Framatome Canada Limited in Kincardine. Workers voted decisively in favour of joining the society in a workplace vote. Ballots were counted on Nov. 22 following an application for certification to the Ontario Labour Relations Board.
Framatome Canada Limited provides engineering, procurement, and construction services for the Canadian CANDU market. It is headquartered in Pickering and has 140 Canadian employees across its three offices in Kincardine, Pickering, and Montreal. Its employees work alongside many Society members at Bruce Power, OPG, and Kinectrics. Alongside Kinetrics, It is a joint partner in Isogen, a venture to produce medical isotopes in collaboration with Bruce Power.
This new bargaining unit will be a composite group of the Bruce Power Local.
Society members are committed to expanding their membership by supporting non-unionized groups of workers to become unionized. The Society of United Professionals continues to look for new opportunities to represent new groups of workers.
