Should this referendum pass, no member’s dues would change immediately. Dues would only change for members of a given local if:
- Your local requests Executive Board’s approval to hold a referendum under Article 21.2 to switch from the flat dues to percentage dues model; and
- The members of your local approve the change in a referendum
While the amendment removes the maximum level of dues payable under the percentage dues model, no local created after April 1, 2017 has yet secured their first collective agreement and consequently those locals’ members are not yet dues paying members. Therefore no member will see the dues they currently pay increase as a result of the removal of the dues cap.
