The Society was pleased to see that the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has announced the Commission’s decision to issue a construction licence to OPG to construct a General Electric Hitachi BWRX-300 reactor at its Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) site in Clarington.
The Commission concluded that OPG is qualified to construct the reactor and will do so in a way that protects the health and safety of people and the environment. The Commission also determined that OPG had fulfilled its constitutional responsibility to consult with affected Indigenous rights-holders in respect of its decision.
Society President Rebecca Caron and representatives from the Society’s OPG Local appeared before the CNSC in February to voice our support for the approval of the license.
