CNSC approves 10-year license extension for Darlington

January 29, 2016

Ontario Power Generation’s Darlington Nuclear Generating Station received the longest license extension ever granted by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

The 10-year extension, which runs until November 30, 2025, reflects the preparation conducted by OPG for the refurbishment of its Darlington site. The 3,512 MW of power produced by Darlington is about 20% of Ontario’s energy.

The Society strongly supported this OPG license extension, as it did the recent extension to Bruce Power’s license.
