Building solidarity through sport: Society members hit the pickleball courts

September 25, 2025

On Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, members from several Society locals gathered at the Picklers Hub in Mississauga for a lively pickleball event. The day was filled with laughter, friendly competition, and meaningful connections as members from various locals came together not just to play, but to build relationships that strengthen unity across workplaces.

Special thanks go to Society members Imram Alam and Hashir Syed Sher and Staff Officer Samantha Ponting, whose efforts made the event possible. Their organizing ensured a smooth and welcoming experience for all attendees.

Pickleball, a sport known for its accessibility and fun, proved to be the perfect choice activity to bring members together. Whether seasoned players or first-timers, everyone had a chance to participate and bond. It was clearly observed that members from different locals were engaging with one another—sharing stories, cheering each other on, and forming new connections.

Events like these are more than just recreation—they’re a reflection of union values. Solidarity isn’t just built on the picket line – it’s nurtured in everyday moments of connection. When members gather, support one another, and celebrate community, they reinforce the foundation of a strong, united Society.

Looking ahead, we hope to see even more members at future events. Whether on the court or in the workplace, solidarity is our strength.
