Bruce Power Submits Site C Impact Assessment

September 18, 2024

As part of the process leading to the construction of the new Site C reactor at the Bruce Power facility, Bruce Power has submitted its Initial Project Description to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada.

The project’s intent is to add up to 4,800 megawatts (MW) of electricity production at the Bruce Power site. With the submission, opportunities for public comments and information sessions are also available. The Society has submitted its review of the impact assessment, supporting the Bruce Power project.

The Society has been working closely with Bruce Power and other stakeholders as the planning phases of the project roll out in order to ensure that Bruce Power workers’ voices and interests are being represented.

In 2023, the Government of Ontario announced support for the pre-development work for potential new nuclear at the Bruce Power site in its Powering Ontario’s Growth plan. In February, Hon. Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, announced a historic $50-million federal investment to advance pre-development work for the Bruce Power project.
