Big Support for Global Nuclear at COP28

December 12, 2023

Society President Michelle Johnston is attending COP28 on behalf of our union as part of the delegation from the Canadian Labour Congress. It is important that the interests of the workers who drive our clean energy efforts in Ontario are well represented.

We were pleased to see that a statement put forward by the International Atomic Energy Agency clearly indicating that expanding nuclear power production is required if we are to reach net-zero saw the support of dozens of countries. (You can read the IAEA statement here https://www.iaea.org/newscenter/pressreleases/net-zero-needs-nuclear-power-iaea-says-in-landmark-statement-backed-by-dozens-of-countries-at-cop28)

We look forward to seeing more positive announcements as part of COP28.

We are moving towards a global consensus on nuclear power which will pay dividends at home. With thousands of our members working as part of Ontario’s nuclear sector, the future continues to look bright for our members.
