The Society of Energy Professionals An independent trade union which represents professional employees in the energy industry. The Society is certified to represent employees under both Ontario and Canadian federal labour legislation. The Society Pensioners' Chapter was formed in May 2005. Its primary objective is to further the interests of the Society of Energy Professionals’ pensioners and of the Society itself. Pensioner/Retiree Organizations Canadian Federation of Pensioners The Canadian Federation of Pensioners (CFP) is a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven organization whose membership is comprised of a growing number of organized pension plan retiree groups. The Society Pensioners' Chapter has been an Affiliate member of the CFP since February 2008. Congress of Union Retirees of Canada The Congress of Union Retirees of Canada (CURC) is a national inter-generational, voluntary organization. It acts as an advocacy organization to ensure that the concerns of senior citizens are heard throughout Canada. The Congress of Union Retirees of Canada was established at its founding Convention, held October 1993, in Toronto. Its Convention is held biennially. CURC has one of the Vice-Presidencies on the CLC Executive Council. The Society Pensioners' Chapter has been an Affiliate member of the CURC since May 2006. Canadian Government Agencies Canada Revenue Agency The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) administers: tax laws for the Government of Canada and for most provinces and territories; and various social and economic benefit and incentive programs delivered through the tax system. Health Canada Health Canada is the Federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health, while respecting individual choices and circumstances. Human Resources and Social Development Canada Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) is a department of the Government of Canada. HRSDC’s mission is to build a stronger and more competitive Canada, to support Canadians in making choices that help them live productive and rewarding lives, and to improve Canadians’ quality of life. HRSDC - Details on Old Age Security (OAS) and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Almost all of today’s seniors receive income from Canada’s Public Pensions. Basic financial support is also available to survivors and to people who become too disabled to work and their children. These pensions and benefits are delivered through the Old Age Security (OAS) program and the Canada Pension Plan (CPP). Together, the OAS and CPP provide a modest base upon which Canadians can build their retirement income. Public Health Agency of Canada To promote and protect the health of Canadians through leadership, partnership, innovation and action in public health. Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) - Seniors Health The Division of Aging and Seniors, Public Health Agency of Canada, provides federal leadership on health issues related to aging and seniors. The Division serves as a focal point for information and centre of expertise in this area. By category or in alphabetical order, the publications of the Division of Aging and Seniors are a great source of reliable information for and about Canadian seniors. Ontario Government Agencies Investor Education Fund The Investor Education Fund helps people make effective use of financial information. The Investor Education Fund was established by the Ontario Securities Commission, the province's securities regulator, and is funded by OSC enforcement settlements. It operates separately from the OSC with its own Board of Directors. Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care The ministry is responsible for administering the health care system and providing services to the Ontario public through such programs as health insurance, drug benefits, assistive devices, care for the mentally ill, long-term care, home care, community and public health, and health promotion and disease prevention.
